At your arrival at the airport, we will have a briefing about the city while going to Explorama's port. This will be a 40-kilometer journey by boat through the Amazon river until Ceiba Tops. Ceiba Tops has air-conditioned rooms with private toilet (hot water included), that will make you feel at home right in the middle of Bosque Lluvioso (Spanish for "Rainy Forest"). In the afternoon, we will wander around a beautiful forest of huge trees, like the kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra). The refuge got its name from this tree. After dinner, we will listen to some local music with guitars and flutes at the bar "El Tucán". Our guides are also always ready to tell you some stories and legends involving the Amazon.
Very early in the morning, we will do some birdwatching. After breakfast, we will have a boat excursion downstream through the Amazon river towards the rural Explorama Lodge. We will follow the "BushmasterTrail", where researchers from the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the highest diversity per square hectare. Then, we will go to a small community of the natives Yaguas, where their guide will explain us about their culture and how their lives have changed over time. We will have the opportunity to barter or buy some of their crafts and watch a demo of their skills with the blowpipe. In fact, some of the Yaguas still use this tool for hunting. After lunch, we will take a footpath parallel to Amazon river to visit a local house and the artisanal mill with its rustic still, used to prepare their liquor. At the end of the tour, we will return to Ceiba Tops by boat.
Very early in the morning, we will do some birdwatching. Then, we will visit the "Monkey Island", a private reserve where more than five primate species are being protected. Some of the species we can find here are: the yellow-tailed woolly monkey, the black-mantled tamarin, the titi monkey, the monk saki, etc. In the afternoon, we will board the boats in search of the sloth bears, which can be seen on the top of the Cetic trees, on the river banks. We will also spot the two dolphin species of the river: the gray and the pink dolphins. If the weather allows it, we will enjoy the sunset from the Amazon river.
Early in the morning, we will leave Ceiba Tops by boat. We will cross a narrow path between rivers Amazon and Napo by motorcar and continue our journey up river Napo by boat until ExplorNapo Lodge, just in time for breakfast. We will enjoy a wonderful excursion to the Hanging Bridge (more than 500 meters long - 1'640 ft) in the treetops. The bridge is connected to platforms and the highest platform is 35 meters high (115 ft). Still, all platforms are accessible without neither special equipment nor prior experience. After lunch, we will walk to the Ethnobotanical Garden "ReNuPeRu", where we will observe more than 240 medicinal plant species from the Amazon, grown by a local shaman. The shaman will explain us how natural medicine is performed in the Amazon and how to use some of these plants. Then, we will return to Ceiba Tops to relax in the swimming pool or rest in the hammocks before dinner.
We will have two options: whether we explore more of the Amazon rainforest (by foot or by boat), whether we have some free time to enjoy the refuge's facilities. We will return to Iquitos so that you can board your flight back to Lima. Lunch (if you have enough time before departure).
