At your arrival at the airport, we will have a briefing about the city while going to Explorama's port. This will be a 80-kilometer journey by boat through the Amazon river until Yanamono, where Explorama Lodge stands. In the afternoon, we will wander around "Trocha de la Laguna" (Spanish for "Lagoon's footpath"), a floodplain. In the rainy season, this outing is done by boat. We will also have a nocturnal walk or a boat trip to listen to the sounds of the jungle and observe the stars of the southern hemisphere.
Very early in the morning, we will do some birdwatching. After breakfast, we will walk to the "BushmasterTrail", where researchers from the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found the highest diversity per square hectare. Then, we will go to a small community of the natives Yaguas, where their guide will explain us about their culture and how their lives have changed over time. We will have the opportunity to barter or buy some of their crafts and watch a demo of their skills with the blowpipe. In fact, some of the Yaguas still use this tool for hunting. In the afternoon, we will return to the boats and sail in search of the sloth bears, which can be seen on the top of the Cetic trees, on the river banks. We will also try to spot the two dolphin species of the river: the gray and the pink dolphins.
Early in the morning, we will leave towards the entrance of Napo river, where the intrepid explorer Francisco de Orellana was the first European to spot the Amazon river, in 1542. We will continue our journey through Napo until ExplorNapo Lodge, just in time for breakfast. We will enjoy a wonderful excursion to the Hanging Bridge (more than 500 meters long - 1'640 ft) in the treetops. The highest platform is 35 meters high (115 ft). After lunch, we will walk to the Ethnobotanical Garden "ReNuPeRu", where we will observe more than 240 medicinal plant species from the Amazon, grown by a local shaman. The shaman will explain us some of their uses. In the afternoon, we will return to Explorama Lodge to relax in the hammocks or at "La Tahuampa" bar before dinner.
We will take a footpath parallel to Amazon river to visit a local house and the artisanal mill with its rustic still, used to prepare their liquor. After lunch, we will return to Iquitos. We will transfer you to the airport or your local hotel. Lunch (if you have enough time before departure).
