15:30 hrs. We advise you to take flight LA 2382 from Lima. In just 1 hour and 45 minutes, you will be at the heart of the Peruvian Amazonian region.
17:15 hrs. Upon your arrival at the airport, you will take an air-conditioned bus to Iquito's main port, where the Aqua cruise will be waiting for you. While you rest in your comfortable cabin, we will be shipping through Yanayacu river, in the depths of the Amazon. Before dinner, we will gather together on the upper deck to receive some important information about safety measures on board. Then, the Cruise Director and the naturalist guides will give a short presentation about life on board, the places we will visit and what we can see during our journey deep into the Amazon.
20:30 hrs. We will enjoy a real world-class meal, prepared by Executive Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, whose restaurant Malabar is one of the best in Lima. Schiaffino's recipes, mixed with the imaginative use of local products -fruits, fish, spices-, makes every meal a delightful adventure. (The menu always offers choices, including a vegetarian option.) Then, we will make a toast to a beautiful journey. We advise you to sip a cocktail on the upper deck, under the stars, before retiring.
Wake up early to admire your very first sunrise over the Amazon. This will only be an example of everything that is yet to come. Return to the Aqua Cruise. Breakfast will be served on board. In the morning, we will board a skiff to sail from the Amazon river to the Huaysi river channel and explore the river of the black waters: the Tahuayo. Upon our arrival al Charo lake, you will be able to use your fishing gear and try to catch some ferocious piranhas, among other fish species. As you fish, the naturalist guides will tell stories about the lake and its inhabitants. Then, we will have lunch. We will pass very near the river banks so that you can take some pictures. As the sun sets, you will be able to admire grey and pink dolphins. Do not miss the chance to take them in pictures. The Amazonian inhabitants believe these animals turn into humans to abduct beautiful men and women during the villages' festivities. Then we will return to the Aqua and continue shipping upstream, towards the Amazon's source, where the Ucayali and Marañón rivers meet. Before dinner, we recommend you to sip a “pisco sour” on the upper deck while admiring the sunset.
In the morning, the naturalist guides will tell you about the sustainable development projects carried out in the Amazon. You will be able to visit one of the projects, where the locals plant palms to obtain oil. The guide will also show you some artificial nests made in the sand to protect turtle eggs. Then we will go into the jungle to discover its wildlife and learn first-hand about the value of medicinal plants found here. Afterwards, we will have lunch. During this outing, you will be able to observe two different types of freshwater dolphins, including the unusual pink dolphins found in the Amazon river. Also, you will be able to observe a vast range of primates, among the 13 local species of monkeys (such as squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, marmoset monkeys and pigmy monkeys). Observe the lizards and have your binoculars at hand not to miss the more than 200 species of birds. Then, we will have dinner.
We will wake up early in the morning to get ready to board the skiff at 06:30. This morning we will sail from Ucayali river to Yurucuche lake, where we will find a small route to walk through the jungle searching for the biggest aquatic plant in the world: the Victoria Regia. The Aqua will skirt the edge of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, a dense forest that covers over 5 million acres of the Amazon basin. You will have the chance to admire one of the best spectacles of the Southern Hemisphere: the origin of the Amazon river. Here, the junction of two major tributaries, the Ucayali and Marañón rivers, form one of the greatest waterfalls in the world. Certainly this is nature at its full glory. Then we will sail to the remote village of Puerto Prado, where you will meet its inhabitants and interact with them. You will also learn about their culture, their traditions and their folklore. You will have the opportunity to trade for local handicrafts. Then, we will have lunch. We will have our last lunch on board together with the people we have met during our journey through the Amazon river. This afternoon, we will visit the Amazonian Fauna Rescue Center, a sort of animal orphanage for Amazonian manatees and dolphins to rescue, treat and release them back into their natural habitat.
16:30 hrs. We will transfer you to Iquitos airport. Our crew will help you check in and stay with you until you have boarded your flight back to Lima.
