The Traditional Inca Trail

A 39-kilometre trekking and camping trail. The longest trail starts in Pisacucho (km 82) on the Machu Picchu railway. The trail crosses through different ecosystems, colossal archaeological sites and terrain rich in flora and fauna, before arriving at the Machu Picchu citadel. On the traditional Inca Trail, tourists walk through several ecological floors, from the high grasslands to the high jungle, passing through various archaeological monuments. In the Wayllabamba area, tourists can admire a series of orchids, which holds singular beauty.

DAY 01: CUSCO - KM 82 - WAYLLABAMBA

At 06:30 hrs. we will begin this amazing adventure. We will transfer you by private transportation to Km. 82, in Piscacucho. We will be arriving at around 10:30. Once there, we will meet the crew, who will accompany us through this trek. The first kilometers are easy and we will admire the view of La Verónica and Patallacta snowy mountains. We will arrive at Miskay, where we will rest and have lunch. Then, we will continue towards Wayllabamba, where we will have dinner and set up camp.

DAY 02: WAYLLABAMABA - PACAYMAYO

After breakfast, we will begin our trek towards the Warmiwañusca (at 4'200 meters above sea level - 13'779 ft). From here, we will have a marvelous panoramic view of the Vilcabamba mountain range. We will have lunch and then walk down towards Pacaymayo valley, where we will set up camp.

DAY 03: PACAYMAYO - WIÑAYHUAYNA

We will visit the archaeological remains of Runquracay. En route, we will find a part of the Inca trail totally lined in stone. In fact, some sections are two meters wide. Along the path, we will observe the quality of the Inca architecture. We will visit Sayacmarca, a beautiful architectural complex. Then, we will walk across a tunnel to arrive at the archaeological site of Phuyupatamarca. Following an interesting 2-hour path, surrounded by a thick vegetation near the jungle, rich in flora and fauna, we will arrive at Wiñayhuayna to have dinner and set up camp.

DAY 04: WIÑAYHUAYNA - MACHU PICCHU

Very early in the morning, we will head to Intipunku (the Gate of the Sun) for us to see the first rays of light falling onto the magnificent citadel of Machu Picchu. We will walk down towards the citadel while we have a 2-hour guided tour of the site. Then, we will have some free time to wander around Machu Picchu. After the visit, we will take the bus to Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Cusco.
