Pichingoto is situated at the foothills of Qoriq'aqya mountain, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Its inhabitants believed to be descendants of birds, which explains why they used to live in caves high up in the mountains until the first decades of this century. They reached their caves with the aid of ropes and ladders. They have survived thanks to their own agriculture, which they kept entirely to themselves. They have preserved their traditions and still live in houses carved in the mountain. Some of them are made with sun-dried mud bricks and have tiled roofs or corrugated iron roofs. They maintain properly their homes so that the tourists come visit them. The inhabitants are minimally-schooled, have a small Catholic chapel in town and have electricity in their homes. You can choose to visit this town on its own or together with Maras and Moray, given that it is on the same way. At the end of the visit, we will have lunch in a tourist restaurant in the valley.
