Huacarpay lagoon is situated at 3'050 meters above sea level (10'006 ft). It has a mild climate and is surrounded by mountains, that the Incas used as terraces. The water of the lagoon is greenish blue and the nearby vegetation is prominent. Huacarpay lagoon has a unique ecosystem, where you can find endemic species as well as wonderful migratory birds, besides fish such as “pejerrey” and “karachi”. Reed exploitation allows the production of basketry and craft items such as “Q’esanas”, a sort of sleeping floor. This is a half-day tour for people fond of ornithology and birdwatching. We will leave at 04:30 hrs. to arrive early at Huacarpay lagoon. We will have a long time to watch the birds of the marshes. We will move from one platform to another and we will walk around the lagoon searching for the most hard-to-find birds. During the tour, we will make a stop to have a snack (or breakfast) near the lagoon. We will return to Cusco in the afternoon.
