AMAZONIAN RESERVE

An eco-luxury lodge in front of Madre de Dios River, Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica has 35 wooden cabanas inspired in the Ese’Eja culture. 540 bird species have been inventoried in hotel grounds, deep in the rainforest. The property offers a varied selection of à-la-carte excursions, including a visit to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a bridge system at 30 meters above the ground, allowing adventurers to enjoy a privileged view of the Amazon. In 2013, Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica was selected by National Geographic Traveler magazine among the world’s 25 best eco-lodges.

DAY 01: PUERTO MALDONADO - AMAZONIAN RESERVE (LUNCH AND DINNER INCLUDED)

Upon your arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, we will take you to the fluvial port in Madre de Dios river. We will sail downstream through the river towards the Amazonian reserve, situated on the left side of Madre de Dios river. Duration: 45 minutes. We will proceed to check-in the refuge and enjoy a welcome lunch. We will have a guided tour through the footpath system of the Ecological Reserve Inkaterra to learn about the architecture and the indigenous atmosphere of the refuge within the reserve. We shall keep in mind that the refuge was built by the locals according to Machiguenga and Huarayo customs. We will continue sailing through Madre de Dios river. This outing will be our introduction to the rainforest' ecosystem. We will observe impressive trees, like the Shihuahuaco and the strangely beautiful strangler fig. The presence of such trees allows us to better observe exotic birds and insects. For your first night, we advise you the program "Twilight River". This is a guided afternoon boat ride through Madre de Dios river. Witness the enchanting transformation from a diurnal to a nocturnal environment, as animals and birds of the daytime are replaced by species especially adapted to the night. While admiring the surrounding nature, make sure not to miss the nightjars, owls, capybaras, and even three different species of caiman. After dinner, you may go to your cottage early, or you can stay and share your experiences in the rainforest with other guests and interpreters, while listening to the sounds of the Amazon. Dinner in the refuge. Accommodations for the night in the Amazonian reserve.

DAY 02: LAKE SANDOVAL - ZIP-LINE - AMAZONIAN RESERVE (BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER INCLUDED)

In the morning, we will do an excursion to Lake Sandoval in Tambopata's national reserve. We will board a wooden canoe and sail through a lake, home to many endangered species. Some these endangered species are: the giant otter, the red howler monkey, the red-bellied macaw, the anaconda and the yellow-spotted side-neck turtle.  After lunch, we will do a zip-line tour. We will go up the first tower (at 29 meters high - 95 ft), where we might meet some animals that live on the treetops. We will walk through the rainforest for more than a quarter of mille with the aid of a bridge system. The bridge connects eight observation platforms, from where we will observe colorful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, sloth bears, among others animals. If you wish, you may extend your excursion to observe the sunset from up high. Once back at the refuge, we will have a presentation about nature at the Eco Center and enjoy the Happy Hour. Accommodations for the night in the Amazonian reserve.

DAY 03: GAMITANA CREEK (BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND DINNER INCLUDED)

On day 03, we will go to Quebrada Gamitana, 25 minutes away from the refuge by boat. We will explore the jungle for one and a half hour. Quebrada Gamitana is home to piranhas, caimans, turtles and birds. We will reach Sanipanga. We will admire the rainforest's flora and fauna. Then, we will return to Gamitana's model farm for a quick guided visit. We will learn more about this Amazonian farm. After the visit, we will return to Inkaterra to have lunch. After lunch, we will walk to the Rainforest Garden. This garden was created by the locals more than 10 years ago. We will find some trees and typical orchids from the rainforest. Your interpreter will explain you about the traditional uses and benefits of these trees in construction, including the trees used for the refuge as well as the ones used for the natives' clothing. Then, we will do the nocturnal excursion through the footpaths of Inkaterra. Listen to nocturnal forest sounds and spot species that only emerge at night. At the end of the excursion, we will return to the refuge. Duration: 2 hours approximately. Dinner and accommodations for the night in the Amazonian reserve.

DAY 04: AMAZONIAN RESERVE - CHECK OUT (BREAKFAST INCLUDED)

A tropical buffet breakfast will be served at the refuge. We will return to Puerto Maldonado and we will transfer you to the airport. En route, we will visit the butterfly house. We will assist you for boarding.
