Upon your arrival at the airport or bus terminal, we will take you to the hotel of your choice.
14:30 hrs. We will take the route to the Chicama valley, where we can see vast fields of sugar cane. We will take a detour to the west towards "El Brujo", where we will visit the archaeological complex formed by 3 huacas: Cao, Partida and Prieta. At Huaca Cao, archaeologists have found polychrome paintings in different floors. Each floor represents a different aspect of the time: prisoners, dancers, fishing scenes, war depictions and mythical creatures from the Moche culture. We will also visit the new and recently inaugurated museum in honor of the Lady of Cao, a female mommy who was a governor during the Mochica era. She was discovered by a group of archaeologists and her discovery was compared to the one of Señor de Sipan. This is an important finding because, before her discovery, it was thought that only men could exercise high-ranking positions in ancient Peru. At the end of the visit, we will return to Trujillo. Accommodations for the night.
10:30 hrs. We will leave towards Moche's countryside. Between the countryside and the desert, we will find the Temple of the Sun (built with more than 100 million mud-bricks that can reach 45 meters high) and the Temple of the Moon. The latter is a beautiful 6-storey building, all heaped up on top of one another. Both belong to Moche culture, and were probably buried by the effects of a big El Niño. Inside the temples, we will observe some wall paintings, high relief images and finely adorned ceremonial squares.
13:00 hrs. Lunch (charged to the passenger).
14:00 hrs. We will begin our tour with the visit of the Templo del Arco Iris (Temple of the Rainbow) or Huaca El Dragón, from the Chimú culture. This squared-shaped structure is surrounded by a 6-meter-high trapezoidal wall. Then we will visit Chan-Chan's museum, where we will see models of Moche and Chimú cultures architectural style as well as a light and sound show. Afterwards, we will visit the impressive Chan-Chan Archaeological Complex, which spanned approximately 18 km2. The Tschudi Palace, in the southwestern side of Chan-Chan, is one of the nine best preserved sites. Its walls are decorated with friezes in relief showing stylized zoomorphic and geometric figures. We will walk through its ceremonial plazas, worship altars, reservoirs, Sala del Consejo de Ancianos (Room of the Elders' Council), its cemeteries, etc. Last, we will visit Huanchaco, the region's ancient fishing bay, where we will see some ancient reed boats known as "caballitos de totora" (literally, "ree horses"). At the end of our tour, we transfer you to your hotel. Accommodations for the night.
09:00 hrs. We will visit the colonial, civil and religious monuments of the city. We will start at Muralla de Trujillo ("Trujillo's Fence") or Baluarte Herrera; we will continue towards Plazuela El Recreo, where we will find Trujillo's old fountain. We will visit Iturregui Palace (one of the most elegant sites in the North), Casa de la Emancipación, La Merced church, Casa del Mariscal de Orbegoso and Casa del Mayorazgo de Facalá (a mansion of important historical tradition where the first Peruvian flag was made during Peru's proclamation of independence from Spain on December 29th 1820). At the end of the visit, we will return to the hotel. At the agreed time, we will assist you during check-out.
