LA PAZ - SANTA CRUZ II

In contrast to La Paz and the other major Bolivian cities located high in the Andes, Santa Cruz lies at an altitude of 416 meters, and its climate is distinctly tropical. Santa Cruz is one of the fastest growing cities in the world, and has grown from being a small outpost town to today having over 2 million people. Santa Cruz is known for its exciting nightlife, and as a base to a wide range of exciting tourist attractions. Santa Cruz its the unofficial Sloth Capital of the World , these charming and iconic animals can still be seen frequently today climbing in trees on the outskirts of the city.

DAY 01: LA PAZ - ARRIVAL

DAY 02: LA PAZ - COPACABANA - ISLAND OF THE SUN (SOUTH) - INTI WATA COMPLEX - CHUA - LA PAZ

Early in the morning we will leave for the Sanctuary of Copacabana. Breakfast is included. We will visit Copacabana, and then we will sail aboard the Catamarán Cruise heading to the Island of the Sun, cradle of the Inca empire. In this legendary island, we will visit its garden, the Inca stairs and the Fountain of the Inca. This tour includes the visit of the cultural complex of Inti Wata, the main private tourist attraction in Bolivia. The visit includes a tour through the underground museum of Ekako, the centers where native medicine is practiced and where reed rafts are built, the Pachamama terraces (where we will see Inca agriculture), a crafting center and the Intica refuge. We will see the widest range of Andean camelids in Mirador Manco Kapac. The tour in Inti Wata also includes the possibility of sailing on a traditional reed raft and enjoying a panoramic view of the Inca palace of Pilkokaina. Later we will board again the Catamarán and head to the Port of Chúa. We will have a buffet lunch on board. Once on the port, we will take a bus back to La Paz. Accommodations for the night.

DAY 03: TIWANAKU RUINS

We will pick you up at your hotel to visit the capital of an ancient civilization, situated only 72 km west from the city of La Paz. At its peak, Tiwanaku was the most important ceremonial center and the cradle of the Andean culture. These pre-Inca ruins were very controversial in the world of archaeology. Carbon-14 tests show they were erected around 1580 BC. We will visit the Temple of Kalasasaya (Sun), the Gate of the Sun, the Semiunderground Temple (Earth), the Akapana Pyramid as well as its museum, where we will see a collection of ceramics items and instruments from ancient civilizations until the arrival of the Inca Empire. In the afternoon, we will pick you up at your hotel and head to the well-known Witches' Market. We will visit the colonial church of San Francisco as well as the crafts' stores on Calle Sagarnaga. Our journey continues through Plaza Murillo, where the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Governmental Palace and the Parliament can be seen. Then we will visit the famous colonial street Calle Jaén, where many important museums are established. From there, we will continue towards the replica of the semi-subterranean temple of the Tiwanaku culture. To add some diversity, we will continue our journey through the residential areas of Obrajes, Calacoto and La Florida. This tour finishes with a visit to the outstanding Moon Valley, where you will be able to take a walk and visit the ceramics workshop, where you will see a demonstration. Accommodations for the night.

DAY 04: SANTA CRUZ - ARRIVAL - CITY TOUR AND GUEMBE BIOCENTER

Later we will go to the airport and board a plane to the city of Santa Cruz. Upon your arrival at Santa Cruz, we will transfer you to the hotel of your choice. During the city tour we will walk through the main streets and avenues (and their monuments), some residential areas, the Basílica Menor de San Lorenzo and some museums. Then we will go to the Butterfly Park at Guembe Biocenter, we will have lunch and enjoy the natural beauty of the place. This piece of heaven in the Eastern side of Bolivia is surrounded by countless types of exotic plants, an exuberant forest and animals from the region, providing the visitors the opportunity to be in direct contact with nature and taking them to a place away from the hustle and bustle of the city and everyday life. The main attractions of the Biocenter are the gigantic Butterfly Park and the amazing Orchid Garden, both are unique in the world. Lunch will be served at Las Palmeras Restaurant, at the Biocenter. Then we will return to Santa Cruz. Accommodations for the night.

DAY 05: SANTA CRUZ - SAN JAVIER - CONCEPCIÓN

Early in the morning, we will leave Santa Cruz and head to San Javier, the most ancient Jesuit mission founded in 1691. On the way, we will visit various places, such as Cotoca, Pailas, the crossing of the Río Grande and natural parks with beautiful gardens. Once at San Javier, we will visit its church from the XVIIth century, which was recently restored, and its museum. After lunch, we will continue our journey towards Concepción. Dinner and accommodations for the night at Concepción.

DAY 06: CONCEPCION - SAN JAVIER - SANTA CRUZ

After breakfast, we will visit its famous cathedral, founded in 1709, as well as some crafts workshops. We will visit the rest of the city and have lunch. Then we will go to the dam and return to San Javier. We will enjoy a traditional coffee and head back to Santa Cruz. Accommodations for the night.

DAY 07: SANTA CRUZ - CHECK-OUT
